Meditation Practices SEE Class

Meditation Practices SEE Class  Inhabiting the Timeless

Wednesdays,  April 21—May 26, 6:30 – 8:15 pm

The goal of this class is to learn how to meditate properly and effectively, beginning with basic techniques and progressing to intermediate/advanced ones. In order to better understand meditation’s rich body of wisdom, we will undertake a systematic overview of its history, philosophy, principles and practices, illustrating how similar Unity principles and practices are to the ancient ways.  Students will thus embark on an adventurous and rigorous exploration of meditation, beginning with the original classic techniques from the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras right up to more modern practices, including Unity’s foundational Practicing the Silence meditation.

The many forms of meditation we will practice are categorized according to their different objectives, and these can be divided into four basic practices: concentration, observation, contemplation and devotion. From these comparative practices, students will quickly learn that the more regular and sustained their meditation practice, the greater their progress and the more extraordinary the mental and physical benefits.  Common obstacles to practice and the many subtle forms of resistance encountered along the path will also be examined and subdued, leading to the establishment of a rich, infinitely rewarding meditation practice.
